A speech goddess from way back, Stephanie
started her Speech legacy in college, proof you too can be a winner.
An NYU alum from the Communications program, and now in her fourth

Kevin Sheldon, Assistant Coach
Kevin Sheldon is in his third year as coach
here at New York University. He holds a BA in History from Cornell
University, from which he graduated in 2002, and is pursuing an
MA in the Humanities and Social Thought with the Draper Program
at NYU. Kevin competed on the Cornell Speech & Debate Team,
and was a two-time New York State Champion. He comes to NYU after
coaching the Cornell team for a year, leading them to win first
place in the nation in their division at the NFA National Tournament.
In his secret other life he works as a writer for the city of
New York's Department of Telecommunications, and as a native New
Yorker, is happy to be back working in a real city for the
first time in half a decade.

Joe O'Brien, Assistant Coach
Joe is currently in his second year as
assistant coach at NYU. After competing in forensics through high
school and college, Joe now splits his time between working full
time in the city and joining the team in the evening to practice.
Thus far, most of his coaching energy has been focused on the
interpretation events. Joe would like to thank Stephanie and the
team for this incredible opportunity. He is honored to have a
small part in the inspiration and work ethic of NYU forensics.

Pete Kane, Assistant Coach
Pete Kane, co-coach par excellence, graduated
from NYU in 2003 with a BA in English and politics. After a year
ill-spent in Texas, he is back...in grad form. While pursuing
a master's degree in American studies, he plays the theremin for
the Plural Nouns, a fictitious rock group based in Greenpoint,
Brooklyn. A noted children's author of such titles as "Fuck
You, Amelia Bedelia" and "A Highly Pleasant Primer on
Alphabetics for Youngsters and Other Young Youth," he aspires
to write for the New Republic and be known as the Antichrist among
evangelical Christians. He divides his time between coaching extemp
and impromptu and making t-shirts for the blue-state secession
movement. The revolution will be silkscreened!

Jamie Hoel, Assistant Coach
Jamie is a recent graduate of Gallatin, concentrating
on gender studies and literature. After finally deciding late
in her junior year to concentrate on liberal arts, Jamie decided
early in her senior year that her true calling is to be a nurse.
Nobody is really sure what to make of this decision, least of
all Jamie herself. But what is certain is that Jamie is in
nursing school at Hunter College. As far as speech goes, Jamie spreads herself a little
thin over all sorts of events. Known for her spunk and love of
complex carbohydrates, Jamie is doing all she can to enjoy her
first year as a forensics coach.

Nathan Mather, Assistant Coach
Nathan is an attorney specializing in management-sidelabor
and employment law. While attending law school at NYU, Nathan
struck pure, mind-rending terror in the hearts of speech team
members. Having decided that making money is better than borrowing
it, Nathan now chills our souls to the very marrow on a part-time
basis. This, however, is still more than enough to make you cry.
In college, Nathan competed for Northwestern University, where
he was National Champion in Impromptu Speaking and a four-time
National Finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking. Recently (and quite
happily) married, Nathan lives north of the City with his lovely
wife, Jill.

Cecille Gumabon, President
Cecille is a junior from CAS who is majoring
in English and History. When not holing up in Kimmel Center stalking
NYU administration, Cecille spends lots of her time writing haikus
and working for the Chem Department. Originally from Towson, Maryland,
Cecille is a well-known crazy on the team who loves
to not pay attention, is uber-organized about anything business-y,
and makes the best mix CDs for long car rides to tournaments.
A bit on the chipper side, Cecille loves to say that the glass
is half-full, especially as she drinks from it. Some of Cecilles
favorite things are: her posse, Ben Folds, live concerts, planners,
original haikus, books, crayons and
yeah sure, speech.

Liz Coleman is a junior in the College of
Arts and Sciences, double majoring in English and Classical Civilizations.
Liz enjoys limited prep, emotional suicide, epic poetry, lots

Liz originally hails from Brooklyn and fully believes she is incapable
of living anywhere other than New York.

Robert Gannon, Secretary
Robert is a freshman in Steinhardt majoring
in music business. His current events are prose, poetry, info, and
impromptu, though he can see himself doing any of the other events
as well. When not forensicating, Robert can be seen watching bad
horror movies, writing short stories that could make Lars Von Trier
cry, and composing two musicals dealing with the supernatural.

Nishi Kothari, Historian
Nishi comes to us from Houston, Texas (yes,
that is a long way away). Though Texas is seen as a "dirty
southern Republican" state, Nishi is glad to say she is none
of these. She is not dirty (she does take showers, everyday), she
does not consider herself to be southern, and she is definitely
not Republican. But this is not really a bio about her personal
beliefs, so thus, Nishi is a freshman this
year and is in Steinhardt studying communications (along with Meg!
yay!). She is very excited about being on the speech team, for she
has done forensics since 7th grade (yes that is sad and she
acknowledges this), mainly focusing on interp. |

Roger Thoman
Hailing from South Park, Colorado (where he
provided the basis for the character of Chef), Roger
wants you to know that there was once a time when he was the cute
one on the team. Sadly, eight years of forensics have crushed
his spirits and mangled his countenance, leaving the sad and broken
man you see before you today. A senior studying Broadcast Journalism
and Politics, Roger passes the hours interning for Newsnight
on CNN and contemplating his thesis, his navel, and the mysteries
of the universe. A die-hard Extemper, Roger is a professional
mason, a brilliant marriage counselor, and a deft gunfighter who
has toured with South Americas premier vigilante circus.
Food critics worldwide say he makes a delicious bowl of mango
chutney. He has played Hamlet, performed brain surgery, spoken
with Elvis, and loves the members of his team more than he would
ever actually admit.

Griffin Hammond, Webmaster
Griffin's legacy with the speech team
lies mostly in epic tales and occasionally in song, but many question
the existence of such an amazing man. Perhaps the website is completely
automated and the sporadic e-mail witticims can be chalked up
to the paranormal... Even his picture looks fake! Many Bothans
died to bring us this information, and yet, the mystery remains
pointless.

Jay DiDonato We will never forget him.
While given
a myriad amount of titles Jay strangely enough goes by his actual
name sometimes. He is a freshman in CAS and is originally from
Westchester NY. He has twin sister who also attends NYU. Jay did
high school forensics at Iona Prep and is excited to be part of
the NYU team. While he has been known to be habitually late to
practice the team can take solace in the fact that he doesn't
discriminate and is habitually late to just about everything.
On his free time Jay enjoys soccer, women, and protein. He is
also known for his ability as a cunning linguist.
